Summary

We wanted to give our little guy one more fun meal when heading out of town on our Wisconsin Dells trip, so here is our Buffalo Phil’s review. The restaurant is close to the highway, making it an easy stop on the way out of town (or into town). If you’re staying at the Wilderness or any resort in that area of the Dells, it’s also close by. For more entertainment, Knuckleheads are also attached to the back of the restaurant, a giant arcade with other activities like bowling.

Buffalo Phil’s advertises train-delivered food, and that is the truth. Each seating area had a train to deliver the food and other fun props like gigantic lego villages. Our drinks and food arrived by train which was exciting (unless the plate is too large). The highlight was the bubble train that comes by in between your drinks and your meal, so be on the look-out. We arrived at 11 for lunch, and within 30 minutes on a Sunday, the restaurant filled up to the point they had a wait. So please plan accordingly for waiting or getting there right when they open.

The meal was enjoyable and kept our toddler entertained throughout. If a train wasn’t going, Thomas the Train was on the TV to catch his eyes. The food was also delicious, but we did do our homework ahead of time for what others suggested to order. The opinions were the food was OK, besides the rotisserie chicken, so that’s what we went with. In total, we will be back.

Service

The hostess was prompt and took us to our table right away. Our waitress arrived quickly for our drink order, but it took a little bit longer to return to take the food order. You can see the waiters/waitresses working hard to get everything on the trains, which probably slows them down from regular service, but they weren’t overly delayed. The only downside was it took a bit for them to come back for the bill. With all the entertainment, this was fine as it gave our little guy more time to enjoy the trains and scenery.

Food

Our little man once again ordered their finest mac and cheese. This was not your standard box mac and cheese, so he appreciated the creamy noodles. The portion was good to fill him up, and they let us substitute the normal sides for corn on the cob. This was a big hit for him, but keep in mind it comes out rather hot…so his patience was tested.

Per a recommendation, we ordered the rotisserie chicken meal for 2. This came with 4 sides, which allowed each of us to pick the two we really wanted. We got a baked potato, mashed baby reds, cowboy beans, and the southern slaw. Out of all the sides, the mashed baby reds came in last but were still delicious. After seeing the loaded baked potato, that’s the way to go for your potato choice as a side. The cowboy beans were a good mix of various beans and meat, and the southern slaw had a tangy kick to it.

The star of the show was the chicken. It came out hot and fresh, with well-seasoned skin from cooking. The meat did not disappoint. It was very flavorful and juicy. Once we got through the breast, the other pieces were equally delicious. The portion was perfect for the two of us, but we were ready for more if it was available. If you’re going to Buffalo Phil’s this would be my first choice on the menu.

Drinks

They did have a full bar, but we did not participate since it was lunch before our drive home. Sorry, we can’t assist here.
