Over the years, we’ve stayed in most of the villages in Door County. We’ve returned to a few of the places several times and are continuing to try new options. Some of our favorite places are hotels, and a few are condos you can rent through local realty companies, which is also a great option. Some resorts are more kid-friendly than others, and we now prefer locations with at least two bedrooms and a kitchen, but some are great options for a couples’ getaway. Here is our top Door County places to stay!

Ephraim Shores

This is one of our favorites when we travel without kids. Ephraim Shores Resort is a waterfront resort that offers fantastic views of Eagle Harbor. We love staying at Ephraim Shores Resort because of its prime location and the great amenities. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and some have harbor views. The resort also has a private dock, indoor pool, and hot tub, making it the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun when the weather is nice. Most things in Ephraim are walkable, and Ephraim Shores is right in the middle. Room prices are very reasonable and vary based on the view and size of the room. They recently re-opened the restaurant on the second floor of the lobby, which is a nice meal option.

Our top recommendation is to take some drinks out to the private dock for sunset, and you can’t go wrong.

Pheasant Park Resort

Pheasant Park Resort is a charming, family-friendly resort with easy access to local shops, restaurants, and attractions. We loved staying at Pheasant Park Resort because of its spacious and comfortable accommodations, perfect for families. The resort has a range of activities for all ages, including an indoor and outdoor pool, playground, and game room. We also enjoyed the proximity to the local attractions, including the Sister Bay Marina and Waterfront Park. There is plenty of room for parking, a premium in Sister Bay these days. We recently wrote a more extended review for our stay, which can be read here!

Julie’s Motel

Julie’s Motel is a family-owned and operated motel in the heart of Fish Creek’s downtown area. We loved staying at Julie’s Motel because it’s affordable, convenient, and clean. The motel was torn down and rebuilt in the last few years, so the rooms are all very new. The motel rooms are spacious and well-maintained, offering all the essential amenities. The location is also fantastic, with easy access to local shops, restaurants, and parks. We have been able to walk into the village for dinner or just across the street for pizza at Wild Tomato. Also, the park entrance is just outside of the parking lot. So, if you bring bikes or rent from right across the street, you can conveniently access Peninsula State Park. The cafe serves a great breakfast, which is a nice perk to have on the property.

Meadow Ridge

We typically like to stay further north to be closer to the park and central to the region, but Meadow Ridge was an excellent stay for us when we needed more space when traveling with others. Egg Harbor has a lot more to do these days than it used to, with One Barrel Brewery, Fireside, the distilling company, and several restaurants right in the village’s central area. We booked this stay through Lundquist Realty. Lundquist requires a whole week’s stay during peak season, so plan a nice fun trip for the summer months. The condo was very well maintained, spacious, and had a nice pool area. The garage was nice for unpacking bikes and other items from the car when we weren’t using them. Located right at the start of the village in Egg Harbor, this is an excellent spot if you are doing more things in the southern part of Northern Door County.

Others

We have tried several other places for our stays and have enjoyed any of the ones we list below. Some may not be the finest accommodations, but we consider price and location as part of our decisions to stay there.

  • Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay
  • By the Bay in Fish Creek
  • Edgewater Resort in Ephraim
