Door County, Wisconsin, is one of our favorite vacation spots! It’s known for its charming towns, restaurants, and outdoor activities. However, as the sun sets, you may wonder what to do at night. Fortunately, there is an activity that is sure to be fun for the whole family: a visit to the Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater in Fish Creek.

The Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater has been a Door County staple since 1950, providing families and friends with a unique movie-going experience. Located just off Highway 42 in Fish Creek, the theater has a large outdoor screen that shows two movies each night during the summer season. The theater is open every night from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and on weekends during September and October.

One of the first things you’ll notice when you arrive at the Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater is the line of cars waiting to get in. It would be best if you arrived early to ensure you can get a good spot. The gates open at 7:30 p.m., and the first movie starts around 8:45 p.m., depending on the time of year. While waiting in line, you can enjoy the scenic view of the countryside and the smell of the fresh air.

If you’re feeling hungry, a popular option is picking up a pizza from Wild Tomato, just a few minutes away. They offer a variety of fresh and delicious pizzas that are perfect for sharing with your group. Eating pizza while waiting for the movies to start is a great way to pass the time.

Another great feature of the Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater is the playground for kids. It’s an excellent way for them to burn off some energy before the movies start. The playground has a slide, swings, and climbing structures that will keep them entertained.

Once you’ve secured your spot and enjoyed some pizza and playtime, it’s time to settle in for the movies. The theater has a variety of snacks and drinks available at the concession stand, including the classic movie theater popcorn that’s always a favorite. Be sure to grab some snacks before the movies start so you don’t miss a moment of the show.

The movies at the Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater are usually family-friendly, making it an excellent option for parents with young kids. Some of the movies shown in the past include “The Lion King,” “Toy Story 4,” and “Aladdin.” The second movie is usually more adult-oriented and typically a recent major release. Last summer, they had Top Gun Maverick while we were in town. The sound is broadcast through your car’s FM radio, so you can enjoy the movies without disturbing anyone else. Be sure to bring some blankets and chairs to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air while watching the movies.

Overall, a night at the Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater is a great way to spend an evening in Door County. It’s a unique and memorable experience that everyone in the family will enjoy. The delicious pizza, a fun playground, and classic movies under the stars make it a perfect evening out. Add it to your itinerary the next time you visit Door County.
